Breaking Through Internal Barriers: Steps to Realizing You Can Have What You Desire
In life, we often experience moments so breathtaking and eye-opening that we claim we can never go back to how things used to be. Yet, we often find ourselves slipping back into old patterns. How did I get here? How could I have been so awakened and then fallen back to sleep in the blink of an eye? Why couldn't I sustain the control and power I once had? Could this be my last chance? We ask ourselves countless questions, and clarity seems elusive.
After returning from my one-year sabbatical, I thought it was impossible to fall back into the grind, the chase, and the hustle. Everything I had learned about being still, living without constant tasks, and embracing a slower, more intentional life fell to the wayside under the weight of North American expectations: bills, taxes, prestige, and prosperity.
Six months back into this routine, I began to question what I am truly attached to. Why do I revert to less sleep, less time, back-to-back meetings, high irritability, and escapist behaviors? Tensions and polar opposite desires constantly pull me in different directions.
I want to live in here and overseas. I want to travel the world and have a stable home. I want to maintain my single lifestyle and be married. I want to be wealthy without effort, own luxurious things that I can fully afford, have more children that I can fully support, and be free from obligations.
These conflicting desires create a whirlwind, keeping me unfocused, searching for clarity, seeking help, and running in circles. For multi-passionate individuals like myself (a double Pisces with a soldier's mind and a lover's body and spirit), excelling in various worlds is both a blessing and a curse. With so many interests, how do we move forward if we can't decide on one thing?
I've realized that it's not the conflicting desires that hold us back but our mindset that tells us we can't have both. We constantly battle ourselves, believing we must live inauthentically because we think our true desires are unattainable. Why do we feel this way? Many of us have never seen it done. We seek examples, proof, and inspiration. But those who achieved their dreams were led by spirit; they relied on internal inspiration, guidance, and faith. Our dreams and desires remain untapped and unfulfilled because we let our surroundings bog us down. We let our "reality" mess with us. Here is what I've realized through lived experience and through the lives' of others. Here are some simple steps that have helped me reclaim my path:
Create a desire list exactly as you envision it.
Write down everything you want without censoring yourself.Under each desire, list the reasons why you think it can't be achieved.
Be honest about your fears and doubts.Transform each 'cannot' into 'why not?'
Dismantle all your misconceptions.
Verbalize them to confront and diffuse their power.
Be a pathfinder - identify at least one practical step toward achieving your desire.
Create a vision board to visualize your desires.
Use images, words, and symbols that represent your goals and dreams.Develop 3-5 powerful affirmations to combat doubts about your desires.
Repeat these daily. Use "I am" statements to affirm your capability and worthiness. For 21 days, rehearse your desires and 'why nots.'
Meditate in front of your vision board, feeling the energy and reality of your dreams coming true.Pray on it.
Ask the universe, God, or divine intelligence to guide you and open the path to your success. Be open and prepared to receive it!
These steps won't bring overnight success; they require time, patience, and persistence. However, they are crucial for breaking free from the mindset and rut you've struggled to escape. If a desire came to you, it's because it's yours and it's possible. Hold onto it, believe in it, and everything will be given to you.
We are more powerful than we can imagine. We don’t have to live an assigned life because we are powerful creators!
